MUDA OGUNSOLA – SERIES 4. FORM ONE BOY IN NAVASCO, GHANA
Since I wrote my series1-3, many NABIA reacted positively and some reminded me of leaving few things out. My reactions were that I have decided not to include all those areas already published by the erudite scholars and great seniors Armiyao Harruna folio 48 and Hon. Alabira Ibrahim.
However, by the time I complete my series 1 – 18, I believe, I should have touched almost all those events that occurred in my 5years in NAVASCO (1968 – 1973) which I considered to be too short a period in the history of our great school of more than 50years old.
I have therefore planned to write on the following topics.
Entertainments and sports
Kulumasa river blindness support program
Miss a meal and save a life in Biafra
Agongo Trust Fund
The great Pente Pente and Wey NAVASCO that put fun into our social activities
The great strike of ‘l don’t want Kenkey’
‘Kokuwa’ Mr. Protein
The proverbial master and other jokes by other masters
At least one episode
The great Headmaster of our time with his working team which included masters and students
To now go straightforward into my series as enumerated above.
Entertainment was one of those activities that made the school great and very interesting. Anytime I recollected those great films like; (a) Golden age of comedy laugh and grow fat episode. (b) Captain Dabark. (c) The Great Titanic and others, I became refreshed, happy and at times laughed alone. The three films were watched several times and students never got tired of watching them. Record dance was the most popular event in NAVASCO. After book worming throughout the week, it was an avenue to dance and dance. My great senior ‘my brother’ was the best James Brown record dancer. ‘Small Korea, don’t you know that I can be your father episode.’ Also great student vocalists were many but Otis was about the best. Sport was the bed rock of our great school which included athletics, football, volley ball, boxing and table tennis. The great sports men and women were many but the outstanding ones were; Colins Gaisie (the best cross country runner) that won several international races and got scholarship to read in USA, Lion, Double Chest, Lawal Mosoud, Otu, Kotoka, Eric, Scorpion, Hope, Paddy Moore, Kukula, Goodman, Sule Kareem, Paulina, Anaba, Adjei, Naribo Kalala, Ismaila, Audu Bako, Nasiru Tiamiyu, Sanusi Strongman, Salami and several that I could not mention should please forgive me due to either loss of memory, time factor, or battery of my set about going off.
I will continue to write about individual sports men and women in my next series but we all know that NAVASCO was a team to beat any day.
- Wepiah Cletus: Just falling in love with the story. Two or more heads of the then group can make a book for students to read and refresh.
- Alagidede Eric: I seriously think putting these episodes together with other great writers such as Alabira n co can be turned into a book for the school. Please think of it so that we can put the various decades together n write a comprehensive history of this great school.
- Ali Dakurah: Absolutely fantastic and nostalgic, Salawu. I seem to have missed ur series 1 and 2. But carry on!!!!!!!
- Muda Ogunsola: Senior Ali Dakuru, thanks so much Sir.
